and in your shoes, dinners on the porch, walks on the beach, quick bike rides around the Cape. It’s Fourth of July week during summer of 2011 and you’re staying in The Nantucket House of Chatham as special guests of Gerry and Charlotte (Mom and Dad.) Legend has it that the house floated over from Nantucket to land in
South Chatham near the Harwich town line. Hmmmm. In any event, it was lovingly restored and became a bed-and-breakfast for a short time. It now is a rental with a lovely kitchen, plenty of rooms, a multitude of private baths (count ‘em – five!), and a dining table to seat all of us. In addition there is free WiFi for all of our droids, iPhones, iPads and laptops. The historic home is on Main Street (Route 28) on the corner of Forest Beach Rd. Forest Beach is only 7 tenths of a mile away. The great
National Seashore beaches in Wellfleet and Eastham are only 20 and 15 miles away, respectively. A great breakfast with the family and afterward you are on your way in the car (we’ll be sure to buy a few seasonal passes) to scope out a great spot on Marconi or Nauset beaches. Or get on your bikes to ride the
Old Colony Rail Trail to downtown Chatham … or to catch the
Cape Cod Rail Trail in either direction – to Wellfleet or Dennis. Or simply relax with a glass of wine on the back deck! There’s an outdoor gas grill and seating for a crowd. As you can see, there’s plenty of parking for as many cars as we’ll need to bring. And some room for Baker to run in the partially-fenced yard.

20 miles to Marconi Beach and the National Seashore in South Wellfleet and only 15 miles to Nauset Beach in Eastham where the good waves are.
